This policy says what Sageling collects, what it does not, and where information goes. It is written to be short and specific enough to check.
Who we are
Sageling is operated by Kirill Klimuk, an individual. We are the data controller for the information described here. Every contact path is support@sageling.ai.
The short version
Sageling runs on your Mac. Your conversations, your files, and what it remembers about you stay there. Sageling reaches the network when you ask it to: when you have it search, read a page, install a skill, or fetch something for you, as well as when setup confirms the current terms and when it downloads its own updates.
The only information we hold that directly identifies you is what you give us: your name and email, if you choose to provide them.
We set no cookies on this site. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate website traffic and performance without tracking individual people. We count starts and completions of the demonstration videos and clicks on download links using random identifiers that last for one page load. We also collect a small amount of information about how the product is used — described below — and none of it is about your work, apart from a note you may choose to type when you rate a reply.
What we collect
If you register the app or join the mailing list, we store your name, your email address, the IP address the request came from, and the date.
Registering creates an account with us — a record holding your name and email, and an identifier for it.
Providing an email is optional. Sageling works without one, the setup screen says so, and if you skip it we hold no personal information about you at all.
When you visit this website, Cloudflare Web Analytics measures page views, referring pages, and page-load performance. Its browser beacon does not use cookies or browser storage. Cloudflare receives the source IP address as part of the ordinary request, discards it at the nearest data center, and does not store it in the analytics service’s databases or logs. We use the resulting aggregate reports to understand which pages are useful and whether the site performs well.
When you play a demonstration video, we record its identifier, whether playback started or completed, playback position and duration, a random identifier that connects the start and completion during that page load, and coarse country or region, device class, browser family, operating-system family, and preferred language. The random identifier is created afresh when the page loads and is not saved in a cookie or browser storage. We do not record your IP address or full browser identifier in the analytics dataset, and this information does not tell us your name or email. The service temporarily uses the connection IP to limit abusive event submissions.
When you click a download link, we record which download it was, the page and part of the page where the link appeared, a random identifier for that page load, and the same coarse country or region, device, browser, operating-system, and language categories described above. This does not delay or change the download. We do not connect the event to your registration or mailing-list record, and the service uses the connection IP only for the same temporary abuse limit.
We also collect limited information about how the product is used, so that we can tell which parts of it are worth maintaining — for example, how many times each skill in our catalog has been installed. This is counted in aggregate: the figures attach to the thing being counted, not to you, and we do not record which person did what.
If you rate a reply with a thumbs up or thumbs down, and you gave us an email at setup, we receive which way you rated it, the reasons you picked from a fixed list, and, only if you chose “Other”, the note you typed. It carries an identifier for the reply you rated, which contains none of the reply’s words. Taking a rating back is sent too, so we can discard the earlier one. This goes with your registration identifier and email so we can follow up with you. It never includes the conversation, the reply you rated, or any file. If you never gave us an email, nothing is sent and the rating stays on your Mac. Either way the rating is also written to the conversation’s own folder on your Mac. This is the one exception to the aggregate counting described above: a rating is tied to you, because you asked us to hear it.
Nothing else touches your work. What you say to Sageling, what it says back, the documents and files it reads or produces, and what it remembers about you are never collected, counted, or transmitted to us. The only words of yours that reach us are the ones you type into a rating note.
How we use it
Your name and email are used to send you release news and to contact you about the product. Ratings are used to find out what is going wrong and, when a note asks for it, to write back to you. That is all. We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for advertising, and we never have.
IP addresses submitted when you register or join the mailing list are kept to protect our own services from abuse and to keep them working for everyone. The website analytics service does not retain your IP address. The interaction analytics are used only to understand whether people start and finish demonstrations and which download links they use.
Where the law asks us to name a legal basis for holding this information: we hold your name and email because you gave them to us for this purpose, and you can withdraw that at any time; we hold IP addresses on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping our own services working and free of abuse.
How long we keep it
Until you ask us to delete it. We do not set a fixed expiration date for registrations or mailing-list entries, and we would rather say that plainly than publish a schedule we do not keep to.
Email support@sageling.ai and ask, and we will delete your record and confirm. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link.
Ratings are kept with your registration and are deleted when your record is deleted.
Video and download interaction analytics are kept for three months. Because each page-load identifier is random and is not connected to your name, email, or a persistent browser identifier, we cannot retrieve events as a history belonging to a particular person.
What stays on your Mac
Your conversations, the files Sageling reads and writes, the projects you open, and the facts it remembers about you are stored on your own computer. They are never uploaded, and there is no sync to turn on.
One consequence worth knowing: Sageling keeps a conversation’s history inside the project folder it belongs to. If you keep that folder in iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or a similar service, those files sync wherever you have configured that service to put them. That is determined by your own setup, not by Sageling.
What we do not collect
We never collect your work. Not what you write to Sageling, not what it writes back, not the documents or files it reads or produces, not what it remembers about you, and not the contents of anything on your machine. None of it is transmitted to us, and we have no way to retrieve it. The one thing you can send us from inside the app is a rating, with a note you wrote for that purpose.
We do not build a persistent profile of you or of your machine, we send no crash reports, and we do not track individual people across page loads or sessions. The usage information described above is limited to website traffic and performance, demonstration videos, download clicks, how the product’s own features are used, and the ratings you choose to send.
That describes the product as it is today, not a promise about every future version. If it changes, this policy changes with it and the change is announced before it takes effect.
When Sageling uses the network
Setup, downloads, and updates. When you accept the terms, Sageling asks our site for their current version and stores the resulting receipt on your Mac. It downloads its language model and supporting data when you set it up, and checks for application updates on a schedule so that fixes reach you. These are ordinary requests to our servers, which keep brief connection records as any web server does.
Website analytics. The site loads Cloudflare’s Web Analytics beacon, which reports the page and referring page together with browser performance measurements. It does not use cookies or other browser storage, and it does not track you across websites. Starting or completing a demonstration video also sends the limited event described above to our Cloudflare Worker. Clicking a download link sends the corresponding limited click event.
The web work you ask for. When you have Sageling search or read a page, it makes real requests to real services. Those services see the request and the connection it came from, in the same way they would if you had opened the page yourself. Some of those requests pass through a relay we operate, which forwards them to the service. The relay does not log your queries, and it does not pass your IP address on to the service.
Skills. When you install a skill, it is downloaded from wherever that skill lives.
Ratings. When you rate a reply and have given us an email, the rating described above is sent to our Cloudflare Worker. Without an email, no request is made.
Location. If you ask for something that depends on where you are, Sageling needs a rough location. When your Mac has recently supplied one, because you granted macOS location access, it uses that, and the place name is worked out from a database already on your computer. Otherwise it asks a third-party service which city your IP address is in.
Who else is involved
Cloudflare hosts this website, our relay, our downloads, the database holding registrations and mailing-list entries, and our aggregate website analytics. It is our only sub-processor.
We are based in the United States, and the information described here is held there. If you are somewhere with stricter rules about where your information may go — the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, for instance — giving it to us means it is transferred to and held in the United States.
The search services and websites Sageling reaches on your behalf decide for themselves what to do with what they receive; they are not acting for us, and their own policies govern.
Your choices
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to stop using it or to limit how we use it, object to our using it, ask for it in a form you can take elsewhere, and withdraw your agreement to our holding it at all. Email support@sageling.ai. There is no account to close beyond the record described above. Deleting it also deletes any ratings you sent, and after that there is nothing else of yours for us to delete, because there is nothing else.
If you think we have handled your information badly, please tell us first — but you are also entitled to complain to your national data protection authority, and in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area that right sits with the regulator where you live or work.
If you are in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to have it deleted, and not to be treated differently for asking. The sections above are the complete answer to the first; the paragraph above is how to exercise the rest.
Children
Sageling is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
If something goes wrong
If we discover that personal information we hold has been exposed, we will tell affected people and any regulator we are required to tell, promptly.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, how we use it, or who else sees it, the date at the top changes and the change is announced before it takes effect. Corrections to wording are not announced.
